ABOUT RUIDOSO
Nestled in the scenic Sierra Blanca and Sacramento Mountains of south-central New Mexico, Ruidoso is a charming mountain village defined by its natural beauty and rich cultural heritage. Named after the “Noisy River” (Rio Ruidoso), the area was originally home to the Mescalero Apache and later influenced by early Spanish settlers. With an elevation ranging from about 6,400 to over 7,700 feet, the village is surrounded by more than a million acres of Lincoln National Forest, offering abundant opportunities for hiking, camping, horseback riding, fishing, and wildlife viewing year-round. Known as a peaceful mountain retreat, it also serves as a hub for recreation and access to nearby attractions like White Sands National Monument and historic Lincoln.
Ruidoso shines as a seasonal destination and local gem alike. In winter, visitors flock to Ski Apache, a Mescalero Apache–owned ski resort on Sierra Blanca with over 55 trails, a gondola, and summer zip lines and biking. At its heart, Midtown Ruidoso hums with cozy cafés, craft beer, galleries, and boutiques, while residents and guests catch live performances at the acclaimed Spencer Theater. Outdoor attraction highlights also include Grindstone and Alto Lakes as well as the thrilling Screaming Eagle mountain coaster and seasonal events like the Golden Aspen Motorcycle Rally and Flying J Ranch chuckwagon show.
WELCOME TO RUIDOSO
Ruidoso:
We’re Proud to Call Ruidoso Home
Ruidoso offers the perfect blend of natural beauty, small-town charm, and a deep sense of community. Surrounded by towering pines, fresh mountain air, and stunning views of Sierra Blanca, Ruidoso feels like a retreat from the chaos of the world. Whether it's the peace of an early morning walk through the forest, the thrill of winter on the slopes of Ski Apache, or the joy of gathering at local festivals and markets, Ruidoso gives us a lifestyle rooted in both serenity and adventure. What truly makes us proud, though, is the heart of the people. Ruidoso is a place where neighbors lend a hand, where artists, ranchers, shop owners, and outdoor lovers all come together to create something unique. Living here means being part of something authentic—something that stays with you, no matter where you go.
Why We Love Ruidoso
Every corner of Ruidoso invites us to breathe deeper, live fuller, and appreciate the beauty around us. But more than the views, we love the spirit of the community. Ruidoso is a village where people wave hello, support local, and gather together for concerts, markets, and rodeos. There’s pride in our culture, from the roots of the Mescalero Apache to the stories of ranch life and frontier grit. It’s a place where nature and neighborliness go hand in hand—and that’s why we love to call it home.
